so, i got to attend a taping of the Colbert Report. it was pretty fun. Colbert had on an ACU suit with a Private rank made by Brooks Brothers, that he was going to auction off for charity. it was funny. his head was also freshly shaven from the show before when Gen. Odierno had a presidential order from Barack Obama to give him a haircut that would be within military regulation. i didn't think Colbert would really go through with it.
when we came into Al-Faw palace, we were handed these coins and a red "WristStrong" bracelet that is worn by Colbert. the coin is comedic yet elegant at the same time. i would be proud to display this with the rest of my military coins.

before the actual taping, one of the Colbert Report's writers came out to talk with the audience and i suppose kill time before Colbert came out. you might recognize him as the guy in the Sonic commercials. he's pretty funny, ad-libbing with the soldiers about military terms, like "HOOAH", "DFAC" and "CHU".
Colbert came out and did a quick Q&A session with the soldiers, which it was so quick i can't even recall any of the questions. the actual taping itself was mainly just Colbert doing a monologue segment that would lead into a pre-recorded segment, like Colbert assembling a care package with Tom Hanks which included an ice sculpture, and a live puppy. after each segment, there would be a video of service member giving Colbert advice for his stay in Baghdad.
for this taping, Colbert interviewed MNC-I Commander Lt. Gen. Jacoby, which is Gen. Odierno's right hand man. along him Jacoby, he also interviewed Iraq's Deputy Prime Minister, Barham Salih. the interviews seemed a little scripted, with Salih cracking a Joe Biden joke that could've won a nomination for the Oscars. it was pretty fun altogether, i got out of the office an hour early, and was able to take my mind off of work. 7 more weeks til i'm on US soil. for the rest of my Army brothers and sisters, we are praying for you until your return.
the rest of the photos are on my flickr.
